This policy only applies to access to PirateLink/NACElink via Career Services’ website and does not apply to any other uses of Southwestern University networks or systems.
Many of the provisions contained in this policy are based upon representations made by NACElink. While Southwestern University believes that NACElink provides a valuable service to the Southwestern job seeking community, NACElink is not affiliated with Southwestern University.
Privacy of student information is also governed by the Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and University policies.
USE OF INFORMATION
Through PirateLink, available via the Career Services website, students and registered alumni can post resumes and additional application materials and view and apply for jobs and internships. Employers can post jobs and internships and review resumes of candidates who choose to make resumes visible and/or apply directly to employers’ postings.
Via PirateLink, students and alumni users will share personally identifiable information (name, contact information, demographic information, academic history, GPA, employment history, etc.) for the purposes listed above. The information in a candidate’s profile is used by Career Services to notify candidates of employment and experiential opportunities and to refer qualified candidates to employers. Career Services may conduct searches on resumes and candidate profiles to notify candidates of educational or employment opportunities through e-mail communications.
- Only the resumes of students who have given permission to have their resumes released to employers are shared with prospective employers.
- Employers will have access to users’ resumes and the personal information contained therein for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring purposes only if students/alumni upload their resumes, use those resumes to apply directly to positions within the PirateLink system and/or indicate on the privacy setting that they want to be included in resume books. Employers will also have access to limited information from user’s profiles (name, grad date, major) only if the profile matches an employer’s search criteria.
Student and employer information from PirateLink may be used to construct aggregate reports that assist Career Services in the evaluation of employment activities, in statistical reports developed for institutional studies, or to inform clients of services and programs that may be of interest. Any information shared with parties outside of Career Services is only shared in aggregate form.
Jobs and internships posted in the PirateLink system are reviewed before posting by Career Services. Career Services does not endorse any employer and urges students to use good judgment in all of their interactions with employers. Career Services suggests that students request business references for unknown organizations before interviewing with them off campus or exploring job opportunities. Students should never give a potential employer their credit card, social security numbers, or bank account numbers, and never spend any of their own money on an employment “opportunity” unless very certain that it is for a legitimate reason (such as training costs). Career Services advises students to interview in public places only.
