Winell Harris grew up as the youngest of eight siblings on dairy farm in Central Texas. She received a BBA in Management from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988 and a MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2000. Winell and her husband, Doug Herron, live in the Houston area.
Winell Herron is the group vice president of Public Affairs, Diversity & Environmental Affairs at H-E-B Grocery Company. She joined H-E-B in 1988 and during her career held several key positions including director of workplace diversity and vice-president of customer service. Winell Herron is involved with H-E-B’s community endeavors and has served trustee for H-E-B Tournament of Champions.
Winell Harris is active in the Houston community and serves on boards of the Texans Care for Children (board secretary), Houston Zoo, March of Dimes, Houston Museum of African American Culture, the Ensemble Theatre, and Community Artists’ Collective. She is board trustee for University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio is a board member for Tobin Center for the Performing Arts and Texas Lyceum. Winell and Doug Herrin are also supporters of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Houston Chapter of The Links Inc.
Winell Herron has received several honors including USTA Alumna of the Year (2014) and Hall Of Fame inductee for the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce (2013). She was included on the 2016 Houston Chronicle “Best Dressed” list.
