H.M. ROCKWELL HISTORICAL ROTUNDA, MCCOMBS CAMPUS CENTER
A terrazzo floor map depicting Southwestern's history in Texas is the highlight of the H.M. Rockwell Historical Rotunda in the Red & Charline McCombs Campus Center. The map shows the locations of the current Southwestern University campus and its four "root" colleges: Rutersville College, Wesleyan College, McKenzie College and Soule University. What is thought to be a cannon (a "Spanish Nine Pounder") used during the siege of the Alamo is displayed prominently. The room also features a staircase which leads to the Student Activities Office, the Bookstore, the Post Office, and the Dean of Students Office.
The rotunda is named in honor of Henry M. "Foots" Rockwell, who graduated from Southwestern in 1922. A businessman and philanthropist, he and his family generously supported student scholarships, discretionary resources to pursue the University's highest priororities and the construction and lighting of the Rockwell Family Baseball Field. He received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Southwestern in 1969.
