These three-story residence halls feature separate outdoor entrances and hallways in apartment-style buildings arranged in two-room suites, with a connecting bath, to accommodate four students. Residents in this complex have the advantage of residence hall living combined with the privacy and quiet atmosphere that an apartment-style dwelling provides. A study lounge is available at Moody-Shearn Hall. Herman Brown Hall houses first-year and upper-level men. Moody-Shearn is a mixed-gender, upper-level hall.
Herman Brown Hall, funded by The Brown Foundation, Inc. of Houston, is named for Herman Brown, who served on the University's Board of Trustees for 20 years.
Moody-Shearn Hall, funded by the Moody Foundation of Galveston, is named in honor of John Shearn, an early graduate of Rutersville College one of Southwestern's four "root" colleges, and William Lewis Moody, Jr.
