FOR A LIVING-LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Cullen Building Renovation $12,000,000
The Roy and Lillie Cullen Building is Southwestern's signature campus structure. For more than 100 years, it has provided classroom space and offices and has served as the University's historic architectural inspiration. The building was last renovated more than a quarter century ago. Current challenges include appropriate use of space, energy efficiency, technological infrastructure and aesthetic issues, such as the construction of a portico to serve as the main entry to Southwestern for visitors and prospective students. The renovation of the Cullen Building will preserve its historic amenities while introducing modern efficiencies and gracing the campus with a new front door.
Charles & Elizabeth Prothro Center for Lifelong Learning $11,000,000
The advent of the Paideia® Program, the growth of programs for international study, collaborative research and community service, and the addition of new faculty provide an impetus for developing a primary facility to meet the expanding needs of students, faculty and staff. Southwestern's Prothro Center for Lifelong Learning will house the Paideia Program and provide spaces for the career center; health and counseling; academic services; financial aid; the business office; and information technology services. The Prothro Center for Lifelong Learning incorporates "green building," or environmentally sustainable, design guidelines and completes the Roy H. Cullen Academic Mall.
Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center Addition and Renovation $10,000,000
Southwestern is one of a very few national liberal arts colleges with a separate, accredited School of Fine Arts. Since Southwestern's founding, the visual and performing arts have played vital roles in the education of students and in the artistic opportunities afforded campus and community audiences. The renovation of the Fine Arts Building for The Sarofim School of Fine Arts guarantees our students, faculty and community a preeminent fine arts facility.
Athletic Facilities $4,000,000
More than 90 percent of Southwestern's student body participates in intramurals, club sports and varsity sports at Southwestern. In the early 1990s, the University joined the prestigious NCAA Division III, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and increased the number of teams it fields from six to 14. These growing programs are straining current facility capacity. Planned enhancements to the athletics complex include the addition of locker rooms and spectator amenities to the baseball facility and the expansion of locker rooms in the Corbin J. Robertson Center.
Student Residential Centers $4,000,000
As a residential campus, we believe that a student's time on campus is an opportunity for growth and transformation. The benefits of living in a campus residential environment include the development of leadership and social skills, increased community involvement and participation in service. Presently, more than 80 percent of Southwestern's students live on campus. The construction of new residential
centers consisting of modern living spaces with common
areas will support Southwestern's goal of housing a greater percentage of students on campus.
Technology Initiative $4,000,000
Advances in technology have changed the ways that faculty teach, that students learn and that institutions operate. Southwestern strives to keep pace with these changes in both its infrastructure and human resources. As new technologies become available, as worldwide connectivity expands, and as multimedia play growing and complementary
roles in the University's educational environment, the challenges increase. Southwestern's teaching and learning technology initiative provides our faculty, staff and students
with up-to-date technological tools that maximize learning and performance.
Mood-Bridwell Renovation $3,000,000
Built in 1908, Mood-Bridwell Hall was last renovated and restored in 1978. This historic landmark is home to classrooms, computer laboratories and faculty offices. The renovation of Mood-Bridwell Hall will preserve the historical
nature of the building while enriching the learning environment for students and faculty alike.
Smith Library Initiatives $2,000,000
The library serves as a campus' intellectual center where faculty and students draw upon vital learning resources. The A. Frank Smith, Jr. Library Center provides modern facilities and professionals who meet the needs of the campus
and the curriculum. Southwestern looks to strengthen the library center's collection, add resources, and increase space and technology to support the intellectual and cultural
life of a preeminent liberal arts college.
