SUPPORTING STUDENTS: The F. Burr & Doris J. Clifford Endowed Fund
January 2006
This endowed fund is established by the family of F. Burr and Doris J. Clifford to honor the long association of their parents with Southwestern University and the example they set of lifelong learning with an emphasis on breadth and excellence of scholarship, and reflecting the Cliffords' focus on the Humanities and a Christian worldview.
Dr. and Mrs. Clifford began their own humanities studies in Michigan thanks to scholarships. Dr. Clifford came to Southwestern University in 1958 as Professor of Classics and Humanities, teaching primarily English, Latin and Greek; served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1962 until 1977; and retired in 1981. Mrs. Clifford received her Texas teaching certification from Southwestern and audited classes in almost every department. After retirement the Cliffords and their family have maintained a close relationship with the university. This endowment celebrates their contributions by encouraging the next generation to follow in their footsteps.
