Anticipation

So, this week I got sick, and it’s because I didn’t start studying for my social psychology exam which was on Wednesday until Monday night. I got really stressed, needless to say, not because the material was particularly difficult, but because there was a lot of it. And it didn’t help that half the terms started with ’self’ and ’social’. Made it hard to distinguish between them.

I remember walking at midnight across the mall (grass area in center of campus) which had just been watered so was wet and it was a chilly night. I was in flip-flops and lacking sleep. The next night, Tuesday night, was very similar. I think this was the first test I’ve actually really stressed about in a while. So anyway, all adding up, Thursday I wasn’t feeling so good. Had a headache and a throat thing, almost a sore throat but not really. Friday the headache by far overwhelmed the throat issue, and I couldn’t move too fast or for very long. But by nighttime I was feeling okay and I went to see Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist with some friends. So far, Michael Cera hasn’t let me down.

But I think the highlight of this week was last night, when I saw Lysistrata. For one, I was feeling pretty good health-wise. For another, I had good company, a friend named Lauren. And finally, the play was what I like to call “Fu-larious!”

The play is about a Greek woman, Lysistrata, who wants to stop the war between Athens and Sparta. So women from both city-states meet and Lysistrata convinces them to ‘go on strike’. The women of course, have a stake in the war, their husbands and children are fighting and dying. So they hide in the Acropolis, and no man gets any. The props for this show were hilarious. Mainly of the phallic kind.

All seems to go well in the end, the war is ended and the men agree to peace in exchange for ‘piece’. But it isn’t easy, Lysistrata has to keep the men at bay, and make sure the women aren’t sneaking home either (they too, after all, miss their husbands).

I just can’t wait for the end of this week, though. After this week, we have fall break, where we don’t have to return to school until the following Wednesday. And I plan to have an awesome Fall break.

Promise I’ll write all about it.
