2008Updates…
The past few weeks have been really busy with Tri-Delta activities. The pledgeship period ended, and last week was ‘Delta Week’, which is full of several inititation events ending with Formal on Friday.

Shelly (the roommate) and I at Tri-Delta Formal in Austin at the Shoreline Grill.

New Deltas!

My Tri-Delta family dynasty at our sisterhood banquet.
For Spring Break, I decided to stay in Georgetown, and I worked giving campus tours twice a day. The tours were huge, but it was exciting to see so much interest in SU. While I opted to stay here, several SU students went all over the US and Mexico for the Destination: Service Program. Each trip is planned by students and is designed to help students experience serving others.

This group of students went to the Gila National Wilderness in New Mexico in order to build trails for the National Park.

My 21st birthday was last Wednesday and we decided to have a party at our off-campus house. In honor of my birthday, my friends made shirts with my face on them. It was a dream come true.
I had a meeting with the Head of the Political Science department, Dr. Selbin, and I’m almost done with my major! I’m taking my Capstone in the fall. A Capstone is required by every major to graduate from SU. Capstone is class for Senior students where you work on a research project for a semester and then present your paper and research for the campus at the end of the semester.
Also related to Political Science, I went to a fancy lunch at the Hilton in Austin for an organization called Annie’s List. Annie’s List supports democratic women in politics through funding and helping the run successful campaigns. I was able to attend though Suzy Pukys, who is the coordinator of Volunteer Resources & Community Based Learning for the Office of Civic Engagment at SU. She was able to contact 4 SU students (including myself) for a woman on the Georgetown City Council, Peggy Easton, who generously offered seats at her table for the luncheon to interested SU students. The lunch was incredible, full of state and local politicians, and special guest Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Ellen Goodman gave a speech about the Clinton/Obama race as well as the importance of women becoming involved in political concerns.
I also have a job interview next week, and am also applying for several jobs at law firms in Georgetown. I’m making summer plans, including taking the LSAT in June, and trying to complete all of the homework I have due next week.
Bike group for Sustainability is going very well. We’re working with Operation Achievement (a group that mentors middle school students) to have a ‘Bike Week’ next week where we are teaching kids basic repairs and bike safety.
