BUCS MOVE TO 4-0 IN CONFERENCE WITH 19-1 WIN AGAINST THE KANGAROOS

[3/8/08] In their last home game until the last game of the regular season, and before the long Spring Break, the Bucs hosted the Austin College Kangaroos on Saturday on yet another beautiful day for lacrosse.

The Kangaroos, after receiving no less than 9 inches of snow in the previous 2 days in Sherman, were able to safely make the trip down to Georgetown for the game without any problems.

Austin College came to play, and the first quarter showed their resolve. Their goalie played very well, stopping shot after shot, and their entire team hustled all over the field, yielding only 2 goals by the end of the first stanza, despite numerous opportunities by the Bucs.

As the second started, however, the Bucs began to find the back of the net. The ball movement was very good on the day, and helped to contribute to some easy goals by the Bucs as they scored 8 and took a 10-0 lead into halftime.

Walker came in for McDonough in the second half, only allowing one goal the rest of the way, while the Bucs scored 9 more to bring the final to 19-1 for the game.

The game was highlighted by the efforts of Martin Irish, who set a school record for 8 assists to go along with 4 goals on the day. Martin received the game ball for his efforts. In fact, of the 19 goals, only 5 were not assisted, as the Bucs continually spread the ball around the offensive zone all day.

Stand out play once again by all of the middies as they continued to control the middle of the field and make things happen on the offensive end. Faulk, Connor, and Chase all did an excellent job, as did Lockwood scoring his second hat trick in as many weeks.

Both Webb and Wersonske added to the highlight reel with some amazing shots and play of their own, and the entire defense was able to keep the Kangaroo offense largely in check.

As a few guys left in the second half for Jason Jones's wedding, many of the new guys were able to gain some valuable playing time as well.

The win moved the Bucs to 4-0 in conference, tied with the St. Edward's Hilltoppers. Both teams will face off for the outright lead in the LSA after Spring Break on March 30th in Austin. There will be a lot riding on the game and I'm sure both teams will be ready to play.

This will be the first of 4 games on the road before finishing up the regular season at home against the Trinity Tigers.

We appreciate the Layne family for making the trip to see our game, as well as all our parents that have shown continuous support all season.

Here's to everyone having a fun, but safe Spring Break...you know guys, the kind where you stay in the library all day and work on those papers and tests until 2 a.m. every day. Remember, "lucubriate". Look it up.
