SOUTHWESTERN LOSES ANOTHER CLOSE GAME AT NATIONALS (5/17/07)
By the time the third day arrived, the Bucs were starting to feel the aches and pains of not having played in over a month and then forcing themselves into action. The Bucs, however, were very excited to play the #9 Western Washington Vikings, who, frankly had no idea who we were, and didn't really seem to care.
This was obvious when the Bucs came out and dominate the entire first half, forcing their goalie to come in the second half and shore things up. While the Bucs did control much of the first half, they could not find the back of the net and could not stop the All-American candidate that Western Washington had. This allowed the game to stay very close.
In the second half, the Western Washington goalie only allowed one goal, a sweeping shot from a curl around the crease by Thompson, who was filling in for Bryson taking a break on the sideline, was ll the Bucs could muster. fortunately, the Bucs defense was able to keep the game close, even though Western Washington took complete control of the game in the second half and controlled, not only temp, but possession for most of the half, including a 5-6 minute possession in the 4th quarter.
As the final whistle blew, the Bucs fell to Western Washington by a score of 7-5. Everyone that could, got in the game and played well, with fire, and represented Southwestern and the LSA admirably. The trip, while 0-3 was considered a complete success, as the Bucs were in every game. After the road in which the Bucs took to get to Nationals, this was even more impressive. For a season that had high hopes, and that had so many seniors who had given so much to the team, this was a solid end to a great career for the likes of Daulton, Jones, Nelson, Guillo, Brown, Kaufmann, and many others.
We would like to thank the many supporters that we had throughout the year, and are already looking forward to next year.
