SU vs. UTSA (2/17/07)
In its first home conference game of the year, the Bucs hosted the UTSA Roadrunners from San Antonio. UTSA has been in and out of the league the past few years but always played very hard, and almost always giving the Bucs a hard fought game.
After an opening day loss to a very good Texas State Div. A team, and a tough "grind it out" win against TCU the week before, the Bucs did not know what to expect on either side.
With McDonough in goal against a team from his home town, the game started with a quick goal from UTSA to go up 1-0 in the first minute of play. The Roadrunners would not see the back of the net but one other time the rest of the day, as shots became few and far between.
Shortly after, the bucs took control of the game in all facets.
Webb, Jones and Wersonske all went on scoring sprees, and Daulton, Sample, Thompson, Irish Lockwood and Brown all controlled the ball well and notched points as well.
The game was exactly what the Bucs needed to get on track against a conference opponent.
Everyone got in and played valuable minutes, with Alter, Milovich, who scored his first career goal, and Titus all playing solid and important minutes in the game.
The Bucs won most ground balls and were able to keep the ball on the offensive end for most of the game.
Jake made his debut at LSM and showed signs of things to come for us.
Lane, Fern, Swanson, and Walker also saw considerable playing time at long stick during the game, doing a very good job. Fletch, Cole and Nelson, again were very solid as starters.
This was a good game to get our offense gong as we head into a game against a very solid Div. A Baylor squad on Sunday.
