Southwestern Hosts Oakland University (MI)

On Friday, February 8th, Southwestern hosted its first ever game against a USLIA team from out of state. Dwayne Hicks and his team from Michigan travelled down to Texas for a three day blitz of lacrosse and started off with Southwestern.

The guys played very well, jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead on a botched defensive play by Oakland. Southwestern played very well, keeping the game close through half-time.

The attack combination of Pete, Gainey and Harrison, ran a couple of fast breaks to perfection and gave the team some much needed confidence with some great scores.

Oakland University had some unbelievable shooters, and controlled the ball very well. By the 4th quarter, Oakland opened up a convincing lead, but SU was able to score a few in the second half as Harrison led all SU scorers with 3 goals. The final was 22-6, but SU came away from the game feeling very good about their play against a top tier team.

All the guys appreciate Oakland for making the trip down and playing us. We wish them the best of luck in their season.
