Southwestern loses tough one at Baylor

FEB 10, 2001 - For the first time all year, Southwestern had everyone on its roster available to play, and it showed at Baylor. Southwestern jumped out to a quick lead on a great goal from Sr. Jamin Welch. The rest of the 1st quarter belonged to Baylor as they rallied and ran off 4 unanswered goals.

The second quarter belonged to Southwestern as the first middie line sparked a six goal frenzy to go into half time even at 7 a piece. Southwestern has played Baylor very close every year, and by the time the third quarter was over both teams were tied at 9.

Baylor took a lead early in the fourth and it stayed that way until about 7 minutes left in the game when Baylor added another score. From that point on, Baylor capitalized on a couple of fast-break opportunities and ended the game ahead by a score of 14-9.

There were some interesting moments in the fourth, however. With Baylor leading 10-9, Southwestern scored a goal that was disallowed because of a moving screen. Right after that, Baylor capitalized on a man-up situation and never looked back.

The guys played a great game, well enough to win. A disappointing loss, the game showed what potential the team has with a little practice and continuity. Jamin scored 4 goals and all the attack had at least one as well.
