I was a transfer student to Southwestern, and at my previous university we unfortunately did not have the option of greek life, so needless to say I was a bit skeptical about joining any sort of a sorority, since I haven't considered myself to be a typical, "sorority girl". I met several adpi members, and decided to go to a recruitment event. I was honestly amazed at how different they were from the stereotype that was built up in my mind. The girls in alpha delta pi were friendly, smart, and outgoing, and I realized that they were the types of girls that I wanted to surround myself with.

I love my ADPi sisters because they are provide such a close network of friends, and they are always there to help. If you have trouble in a class, they want to help you. If you have car trouble, they're on the way. If you have boy problems, they love to listen. ADPi girls truly live for eachother.

My grandparents are always meeting up with their old college friends, and I have realized that the relationships I've built in Alpha Delta Pi will be long and lasting...and one day when I'm 70, I'll be meeting up with my ADPi girls.

I was worried about joining a sorority because of the stereotypes and the possibility of losing friends who weren't Greek or friends who were in a different sorority. I can definitely say these are issues I have not faced, which is a huge relief.  I'm always hanging out with my sisters, my independent friends, and friends in other sororities and I've never worried about being stereotyped.  Being in a sorority at Southwestern, I think I can speak for all of the Greeks when I say that I feel independent and bring my own individuality to the organization.  It's nice to know you can belong to an organization, but yet it won't create you or limit you.

I had a struggle choosing a sorority because I had made so many great friends in other sororities and was worried that choosing a different sorority would ruin those friendships.  I have found that to be false, because I still have those friendships with people I met before and during recruitment.  If anything, it brought me closer to those friends.

Something that helped me make my decision to choose Alpha Delta Pi was that I realized that every young woman I met in the sorority before and during recruitment had their own personality and drive. They were all diverse in their activities and characteristics, yet they seemed united, making Alpha Delta Pi really unique in that the sorority didn't make them.  Each member made the sorority into a group that embraces individuality and autonomy.

Choosing a sorority is obviously a very big deal. I was skeptical about going Greek in the first place, not considering myself the stereotypical sorority girl, but I wanted to at least check them out.  I went to many of the sorority functions first semester and attempted to meet as many members so that I could to make a well-informed decision when Rush finally came along.  I realized rather quickly that ADPi was the place for me.  They were an ecclectic, smart group of girls who fit what I look for in my friends normally.  Talking with them, I felt right at home.

Growing up with only a brother, it is definitely nice to finally have sisters!  Hands down, I know I have sisters that will be there for me whenever I need them.  And it's more than just at Southwestern; we coordinate functions with other chapters and get to meet alumni.

Most importantly, together we all work to help those in need at Ronald McDonald houses around the country.  RMH is truly an amazing charity, and I'm extremely proud to be a part of it through ADPi.
