302a Acquisitions - A. Frank Smith Jr. Library Center

Collection Development & Acquisitions

The library strives to provide a balanced digital, print, and media collection that is directly responsive to the University’s curriculum. The collection supports students’ intellectual exploration beyond the curriculum, as well. Developing the collection and purchasing materials for it are responsibilities of the Collection Development & Acquisitions Department. The librarians who act as subject liaisons (listed in the Liaison Directory) and the teaching faculty work together throughout the year to develop the library’s collections so that acquisitions are directly focused on student learning.

The library very gratefully accepts donations of funds with which to purchase needed materials. The gift policy describes the process for potential donors wishing to give books or recordings to the library.

Current members of the SU community are encouraged to request new titles for the collection. The library’s Collection Development Policy outlines what the library does and does not add to its collections. Faculty may find the Links for Faculty page helpful, as well.

We invite you to stop by the department during our open hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
