Bill Bradley
Former U.S. Senator, Bill Bradley will speak on The New American Story, including Nine Questions to Ask Before Voting for President, as
the 2008 Roy and Margaret Shilling lecturer, Monday, April 21, at 7
p.m. in the Alma Thomas Theater.
Bradley will provide insights as to why he thinks politics is stuck
and idealism is not dead. A Princeton graduate and Rhodes Scholar,
Bradley served three terms in the U.S. Senate. Throughout his
wide-ranging career, Bradley played professional basketball for the
New York Knicks, received an Olympic Gold Medal in basketball,
authored four books, and currently serves as a visiting professor at
Stanford, Notre Dame, and the University of Maryland.
Lecture seating is limited. Beginning March 5, the campus community
will have first option to reserve tickets by e-mailing
. Faculty and staff can reserve two
complimentary tickets each. Tickets can be picked up on the day of the
lecture at the Alma Thomas Box Office, beginning at 5 p.m. or in the
University Events Office, Cullen 33, April 3 through Apr. 18 from 8
a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.
The Roy and Margaret Shilling Lecture Series was endowed by The Brown Foundation, Inc., of Houston, to honor the 13th President and First Lady of Southwestern University for 19 years of service to Texas' First University. The intent of the lecture series is to present internationally prominent speakers on topics relating to ethics, public service, and public policy. Past speakers have included Bill Moyers, President Jimmy Carter, Marian Wright Edelman, William Sloane Coffin, John McGuire, Karen Hughes, The Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Benazir Bhutto, Thomas H. Kean, and James Baker III.
