A student summarizes her experience in New York during the Spring 2011 semester.

Participating in the New York Arts Program was one of the best decisions I made during my time here at Southwestern. The experience allowed me to explore the art world as it exists today as well as to put into practice everything I’ve learned through my courses. I interned with the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum and with the Membership Department at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Working at both institutions gave me an invaluable insider look into how museums function within the larger dynamic web of art, artists, galleries, art historians, and the public. In addition to the internships, living in New York City for a semester was an amazing experience, with so many accessible and exciting opportunities available to me every day. I would highly recommend the program to anyone who’s interested in exploring career options in the arts as well as experiencing life in NYC. I hope to return to the city in the future, and feel much more comfortable and confident doing so after participating in NYAP.
