Reserving the Chapel

For information on scheduling the Chapel for a wedding, contact University Relations at 512-863-1483 or events@southwestern.edu. Student organizations and University departments may reserve the Chapel for gatherings directly through the web site or by calling the Office of Religious Life at ext. 1527. 

Weekly Chapel Services

Chapel
Thursdays @ 11 am
Lois Perkins Chapel
University Chapel Services are held each Thursday during the regular semester at 11:00am in the Lois Perkins Chapel. The services are open to anyone who would like to attend. Student greeters, readers, and musicians help to lead these services organized by Dr. Eric McKinney, Interim University Chaplain. The Chapel Planning Committee meets monthly to plan these and other special services. The University Chorale, SU Singers and other student musicians present special music in chapel on a regular basis. Services are inter-denominational. Communion is offered on the first Thursday of the month.

Chapel Planning Committee
The Chapel Planning Committee is made up of students interested in planning and leading chapel services and learning more about the history and practices of worship traditions. The Chapel Planning Committee meets monthly over dinner to share ideas and make plans. The committee goes on a retreat once a year to explore a theme in depth and to plan for chapel services and special events.  

Informal Worship and Study Break
Informal worship with music, singing, and prayers takes place most Tuesday nights during the regular semester between 9:30pm and 10:30pm.  The location varies.  For locations and more information contact the Office of Religious Life (ext. 1527 or 1965).  

Special Worship Services

Sunday Services

There are no regular Sunday services held at the Chapel. Rather, students are encouraged to attend Saturday and Sunday services at the church or congregation of their choice. A partial list of area houses of worship is available here [Adobe PDF].

Candlelight

	Candlelight (left) is a long tradition at Southwestern University and in Georgetown, celebrating the season of Advent. The University Chorale and Orchestra present special music during this service of lessons and carols. Candlelight is held during the first week of Advent with two services (6:00 and 7:30 p.m. in 2008). A holiday reception follows the late service in the McCombs Campus Center.
