Undergraduate Research and Creative Works Symposium

2007 SUURCWS was April 18, 2007. Abstracts are due for 2008 SUURCWS in late February.

Collaborative Research Funds - Mundy and William B. Jones Faculty Fellowships

Collaborative Research involving work with faculty and students is funded through the Mundy Faculty Fellowship Fund and the William B. Jones Faculty Fellowship Fund. Both funds share a common purpose to support scholarship, research, or other creative activities that involve a faculty member and a student in a collaborative endeavor. The Mundy Faculty Fellowship is ideal for longer, more intensive projects that will require as many as 8 weeks of summer work, in addition to work during the academic year. The Jones Faculty Fellowship is designed for less intesive projects that don't require 8 weeks of summer study of for projects that primarily occur during the academic year.
Final Report: Upon completion of the project, separate final reports (one from the faculty member, and one from the student) shall be submitted to the Associate Provost. These reports, due October 1, following the award period, should describe the project, the progress made, and how the results will be disseminated.

King Creativity Fund

The purpose of the King Creativity Fund (KCF) program is to support the creative endeavors of students enrolled at Southwestern University. The KCF program encourages, stimulates, and maintains creativity by providing funds to defray the direct costs of conducting innovative and visionary projects, either on- or off-campus.

This program is designed to provide funding for projects that will allow the University community to explore a variety of programs that engage faculty and students in these types of activities.

Final Report: These reports, due October 1, following the award period, should describe the project, the participants, the individual projects, the progress made, and how the results will be disseminated.

Other Undergraduate Research Sites

NSF-REU - The Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program of the National Science Foundation provides stipends, and in many cases, housing and travel for undergraduate student researchers. An REU site consists of a group of ten or so undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Each student is associated with a specific research project where he/she works closely with the faculty and other researchers. This website explains the program and provides a list of programs that are available. Students must contact and apply to specific REU sites.

CUR - The Council on Undergraduate Research. This organization has at its mission to support and promote high quality student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship. The organization provides assistance in establishing and maintaining an undergraduate research program on your campus, provides summer stipends for student researchers, and has annual meetings to assist faculty and administrators in developing undergraduate research experiences.

NCUR - National Conferences on Undergraduate Research. NCUR's mission is to promote undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity done in partnership with faculty or other mentors as a vital component of higher education. NCUR holds an annual conference to showcase the results of undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity.

UTMB Summer Undergraduate Research Program - University of Texas Medical Branch Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Summer undergraduate research program at UTMB in Galveston, Texas. Program is in its 14th year. The program will run from June 7 through August 13, 2004. The committee is seeking students who are especially interested in pursuing careers in biomedical research. Students need to complete an application, submit two letters of recommendation (one from a faculty member and one from an advisor), and an unofficial transcript. The deadline is February 14, 2004. Applications may be completed on-line.
