Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA):
The goal of the CLA project is not to measure changes in individual
students, but rather to learn more about programmatic features
that correlate with "institutional effects" associated
with larger than expected gains in students' analytical reasoning,
critical thinking, and writing skills. Testing is currently being
conducted and results will be posted when they are received.

CORE
Drug and Alcohol Survey: The survey assesses the
nature, scope, and consequences of alcohol and other drug use
on college campuses.
The
Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) established
as the core postsecondary education data collection program
for NCES, is a system of surveys designed to collect data from
all primary providers of postsecondary education.
IPEDS
College Opportunities On-line (COOL) presents
data on institution prices, financial aid, enrollment, and
type of programs that are offered by the institution. IPEDS
COOL is designed to help college students, future students,
and their parents understand the differences between colleges
and how much it costs to attend college.
National
Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE): The survey
measures five areas that are associated with high levels of
learning and development: level of academic challenge, active
and collaborative learning, student-faculty interaction, enriching
educational experiences, and supportive campus environment.
It is given annually to first-year students and seniors.
Southwestern has participated in the study since
2001. Recent results show that Southwestern is in the top 10 percent
of schools nationally in the areas of student-faculty interaction
and enriching educational experiences. It also ranks above institutions
in its peer group in the other three areas.
