From williamd at southwestern.edu Mon Jan 14 11:33:44 2008 From: williamd at southwestern.edu (David Williamson) Date: Mon Jan 14 11:38:20 2008 Subject: [rcc] RCC Schedule for Spring '08 Message-ID: <478B9CF8.30507@southwestern.edu> Welcome back! I hope you had a pleasant break. Half the year is gone already. Whew! We have been busy while you were gone. Here is the current schedule. You will need Acrobat Reader (go to http://tinyurl.com/39mwn4 for the Windows flavor) to open and print this attachment. I will probably end up revising this schedule 3 or 4 times over the next couple of weeks while you folks add/drop classes. The schedules are posted on the door and in the black binder in ITS. If you need to change your schedule, please email me AND come by ITS and mark the changes on the schedule in the black binder and door (next to the printer). A few changes in the labs: SLC now has more Macs and PCs (we are working on the chairs); all the older PCs in SLC have been replaced with new ones; there are only 4 PCs with SPSS activated in SLC (including the 3 by the front door) - students will need to use the Macs or go to Mood Lab if they need more; and the Mood Lab will now include some Macs. Finally, if you have signed up for both Labbie hours and RCC hours, you should be receiving BOTH mailing lists. If you are not, that means I forgot to add you to both. So email me and let me know you need to be added. Thanks, Dave P.S. Goodies soon to follow.... -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... This pay period ends Sunday evening at midnight (Jan. 14th-27th, 2008). Come in Monday between 9am and 4pm and sign your time sheets. Be sure to check them for accuracy. I will be out Monday, but Sharon (x1642) can sign and make corrections for me. ITS and Paideia Hardware for Honduras Project: Neal and I met with Dr. Castro's Paideia class of 8 students on Tuesday. We will be meeting again this coming Tuesday (Jan. 29th) at 11:30 or so in Mundy, 2nd floor. We will be training them on refurbishing the computers and monitors we will be sending to Honduras in March. Please come if you can. ***FREE PIZZA and drinks*** We will meet in Mundy 2nd floor (go across the iron bridge, go inside, 1st door on the right) between 11:30 and noon. We will train until almost 1 pm (some people have 1 o'clock classes). Please come and get to meet Dr. Castro's class and see how we will be doing the Honduras Project. If you plan to eat free pizza with us, PLEASE EMAIL NEAL (mannw@southwestern.edu) by tomorrow Monday, Jan. 28th, and confirm. Let him know how many slices and what your preference is. Paper: Any time you have to deliver paper, get a count of how many boxes are left in the closet. Anytime we are down to 12 boxes or less, let Margie or Sharon know immediately. We have to reorder paper and allow enough time for delivery. Lost: the Mood closet key. This was the single key on the (South Carolina?) key chain, not the Larry the Llama key chain with multiple keys. Please check your pockets, your unwashed clothes, and your piles of stuff you empty from your pockets (okay, I guess I'm mainly talking to the guys now), and see if you have this key. We need it back ASAP. This is one of the triple-cut keys. Info on your portable apps: Most of you by now have picked up the 1 gig USB flash drive ITS bought for you. I set up a portable apps suite and an "Other Tools" folder for you. There are quite a few apps and tools you should find useful to you in your career as an RCC. I included a text file in the documents folder with a description of each file. I will send more info later. RCC Party: We are working on an RCC Party. Next Saturday (February 2nd) in the evening from 6pm to 11-ish. Free food and drinks, 2nd floor of Mundy (beginning to see a pattern?). This will be a console party - RCC and ITS only. So far we have a Playstation 2, a Wii, Sega Genesis, two modded X-Boxes, and an X-Box 360, all of which will be projected on the walls for that ultimate big screen goodiness. Bring your games if you have them. If not, we already have several such as Halo 1-3, DDR (with dance pads), racing and flying sims, and some sports games. What we need from you: 1. Confirmation that you are coming. 2. Let us know what you want for food (type of pizza?). 3. If you can bring any games. 4. If you can bring any extra controllers. 5. What games (specific names or genres) you want to play. 6. Any suggestions you have for making this really, really fun! I'll be out Monday, but I will see you on Tuesday. Don't forget to sign your time sheets tomorrow. Message-ID: <47A23550.4020009@southwestern.edu> First, the RCC Party is on for THIS SATURDAY (Feb. 2nd) from 7pm-11:30! Please confirm because I need to order the food (is pizza is okay with everyone?). So far, Lane, Kate, Tony, Jolie, and Jonathan have confirmed. And, if you haven't heard, we will be console gaming: Sega Genesis, Playstation 2, Wii, X Box and X Box 360. Some of the game requests have been DDR (we have 2 dance pads), Halo 2 & 3, Sonic, various driving and sports sims. We have tons of games, but let me know your requests so we will bring the right ones. Also, we will have other games and door prizes. We will meet in Mundy, 2nd floor (enter across the bridge). There are chairs, but feel free to bring your own beanbag, cushion, or other comfy accessory. We could probably use extra controllers if you have some. Feel free to bring your own games, but PLEASE, put your name on your stuff. We don't want anybody to lose anything. We will eat about 8 o'clock. In order to reserve the room, we had to do some training. So, I will spend about 30 minutes demonstrating some of the refurbishing techniques we will use with the Honduras and Paideia students. Then, back to the party. BTW, please help me clean up when it is over. Secondly, I had asked for RCC volunteers to meet with the Paideia students to guide them when refurbishing the Honduras computers. I'm asking for you to meet with them once a week (starting next week), until we ship the systems in mid-March (approximately 6 times). Jolie, Tony, Jonathan, and Brian have volunteered so far. Please see the schedule below. We still need a volunteer to meet with the Paideia students on Tuesdays from 6-9pm. Anyone interested? Please let me know asap so I can notify Dr. Castro's students. If you can't make it on Tuesdays but would still like to volunteer, feel free to come on the other nights and help the other RCCs and Paideia students. Please call me if you have any questions. Feel free to call me on my cell phone (512-630-8881 - a local call) if you run into any problems or have any questions when working on these older systems. We are working on getting an extra key. But Dr. Castro or I should be around to open it up for you.
