Dear White People, movie night

Friday, January 16th at 8:00 pm in The Cove

— A comedy/drama about the lives of four black students at an Ivy League university

— Winner of a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and Audience Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival, among other awards 

— Free popcorn, cookies, and other snacks will be served




Omid Singh, comedian

Friday, January 23rd at 8:00 pm in The Cove

— Nationally-touring stand-up comedian who is based in Los Angeles

— Has appeared with comedians such as Maz Jobrani (Axis of Evil) and Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond), as well as at over 40 colleges

— 2013 No Budget Film Festival - Audience Award Winner (SUBWAY)

— Says that his unique upbringing (half Indian, half Persian, and has lived in over a dozen cities across two continents) has influenced his comedy, making him a diverse performer who enjoys connecting with every type of audience


Max Frost, musician

Friday, January 30th at 10:00 pm in The Cove 

— Singer, songwriter, and guitarist who pulls aspects of various styles (blues, funk, electro, hip-hop, pop) into his music

— Originally from Austin, where he collaborated with artists such as Bob Schneider and hip-hop MC/producer Kydd; played Blues on the Green

— Released a single, “White Lies”, in April 2013, which has been featured on a Beats by Dre commercial and played on radio stations across the country, and his debut EP, “Low High Low”, in October 2013

— Toured with Fitz and the Tantrums in summer 2014

— Was recently voted #4 Best Indie Band in Austin and named by Austin Monthly as one of “Ten Bands to Watch” in 2014


Phunk Phenomenon, dance crew

Friday, February 6th at 9:30 pm in Robertson (following the basketball games) 

— Hip hop dance group from Boston who train with the Phunk Phenomenon Dance Complex, a non-traditional dance studio with the mission of reaching today’s youth through the art of urban dance 

— Competed in MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” season 6, Paula Abdul’s “Live to DANCE”, and “America’s Got Talent”

— Members of the group are in the upcoming hip hop dance movie, “Battlefield America”


The Rocketboys, rock band

Friday, February 13th at 8:00 pm in The Cove 

— Have played at Austin City Limits Music Festival, CMJ Music Marathon, South by Southwest, and Next Big Nashville

— Toured nationally with Relient K, The Almost, The Mowgli’s, Kopecky Family Band, Dinner and a Suit, and Mike Mains & the Branches in 2013

— Have released two full-length albums and are currently working on the third with multi-grammy winning producer, Joe Chicarelli

— Their music has been played on ABC’s “Private Practice”, “One Tree Hill”, “Elementary”, and MTV’s, The Real World Washington, D.C., and The Buried Life.


Joseph Tran, magician

Friday, February 20th at 8:00 pm in The Cove 

— A master of both close-up sleight-of-hand magic and modern day stage illusions

— Started performing magic at a young age and earned the Magic Castle’s Young Magicians Achievement Award – the highest honor bestowed upon a young magician

— Has performed for Fortune 500 corporations, on cruise ships, at colleges, and in theaters across the world

Ebony Stewart, spoken word artist

Friday, March 27th at 8:00 pm in The Cove; free workshop at 4:00 pm in Heather Hall (FAC)  (note: Ebony’s workshop and performance may contain content for mature audiences.)

— Three-time Slam Champion from Austin

— Has shared stages with Buddy Wakefield and the late Amri Baraka

— Coached the Neo-Soul slam team finishing 1st place in Group Piece Finals in 2012, coached the Austin Poetry Slam team leading them to 5th place in 2013 at the National Poetry Slam, and coached the TheySpeak Poetry Slam team finishing top 8 in the world at Brave New Voices in 2014

— Currently on her RISE! Tour, promoting sexual health, body image and healthy relationships through performance and workshops

Ron Funches, comedian

Friday, April 17th at 8:00 pm in The Cove 

— From southern California

— Stand up comedian with a unique delivery and lovable demeanor. You just want to hug and squeeze him like a big stuffed bear.

— Television appearances include recurring roles on Comedy Central’s “Kroll Show” and Disney’s “Crash and Bernstein”; guest star role on Fox’s “New Girl”; and stand up performances on TBS’s  “Conan O’Brien Show” and Comedy Central’s “John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show”

— Has a series regular role on NBC’s new show “Undateable”


Game Night, a campus tradition

Friday, April 24th at 7:00 pm in Bishops Lounge 

— Co-sponsored by the Computer Science Club

— Play a variety of video games, including old favorites such as Atari, Pac-Man, and Nintendo, and the latest and greatest such as Super Smash Brothers. Or join your friends for a board game.
