    National Hazing Prevention Week (NHPW) is an opportunity for campuses, schools, communities, organizations, and individuals to raise awareness about the problem of hazing, educate others about hazing, and promote the prevention of hazing.

    This week (Sep. 22 - Sep. 26) we will be taking a closer look at hazing, ways to prevent hazing, and working to make Southwestern a hazing free zone. Join us for one of our events this week, or stop by the concourse during lunch for more information.

    A panel discussion with Anti-Hazing Heroes

    Standing up to hazing in your community can be challenging, but it is not impossible, as evidenced by the courageous leaders across the country taking a stand. During this program, HazingPrevention.Org’s Hank Nuwer Anti-Hazing Hero award recipients will share their own personal stories of how they challenged themselves to stop being bystanders and challenged hazing within their organizations. They will discuss why and how they challenged hazing in their environment as well how they overcame the fear and challenges of no longer being a bystander. Participants will have an opportunity to ask the panelists questions during the program

  • Image preview NHPW Presentation: The Case of Robert Champion
    F.W. Olin Building Room 105

    Join us as we examine the Case of Robert Champion. In 2011, Florida A&M University drum major Robert Champion endured a night of hazing that ultimately led to his death.  We will be examining what happened that night, the aftermath of the event, and what the university possibly could have done to stop this tragedy from happening.  

    There will be free pizza.

    Join us as we wrap up National Hazing Prevention Week with a chili cookoff! The Greek organizations will be making their best chili for you and our judges!
  • Image preview Friday Night Live: Comedy Videos, Found Footage Festival
    The Cove

    A comedian has found (unintentionally) funny old videos and comments on them as you watch (similar to Alamo Drafthouse’s Master Pancake). The Found Footage Festival has been featured on NPR, ABC World News, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and G4 TV’s Attack of the Show. It has been named a Critic’s Pick in dozens of publications, including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle and The Chicago Tribune.

    The SU Shuttle is back this fall and Student Activities will be coordinating its operation.  This weekly shuttle makes stops at both HEB and Wolf Ranch.  All SU students can ride along for free.

    No advance reservations are necessary.  Just bring your cell phone and show up behind the McCombs Center (near The Cove patio) between 3:00-3:45pm on a designated shuttle day.

  • Auditions for SU Showcase
    Lynda Ballroom, McCombs Campus Center

    Come audition for the SU Showcase!  This semester’s event will be held on Friday, October 24th and we need talented students to perform.  All talents are welcome - singing, dancing, hoola-hooping, stand-up comedy, baton twirling - the possibilities are endless.

    The Hunts are a band comprised of seven siblings from Virginia. They have done seven U.S. tours and traveled worldwide for ten years and will be performing at Austin City Limits 2014.

    Good News Poetry Tour features Dylan Garity, Hieu Minh Nguyen, and Sam Cook. Credits among the group: College National Poetry Slam Champion, National Poetry Slam Champion, work featured on Upworthy and The Huffington Post, Co-Founder/Executive Director and Assistant Director of Button Poetry, author of The Way to the Sugar, works published in poetry journals.

Check in is in Kurth Lobby.

    The Leadership Development Series continues this month with the topic Leading Outside the Lines.  Often times leadership is looked at from a formal stand point, but often times it is the informal versions of leadership that have the biggest impact.  Come learn about how you can be a leader without a formal role, and how to best take advantage of the informal structure of an organization to help energize your team, and get the best results.

    Step and Stroll is co-sponsored by UPC and CDSJ. The event will feature step routines by student organizations and step teams from around the Austin / Georgetown area will perform as well.

    Blackjack, craps, roulette, Texas hold’em and slot machines! Each attendee will receive “$20,000” in poker chips, which may be used at any table. Cash your chips in at the end of the night to enter drawings for various prizes! Enjoy a sampling of mocktails and snacks.
