2016-17 Housing Damage Assessment
In the event that you are charged fees for damages, you will have a means to appeal them through an online Housing Damage Appeal Form. This form will be available to you from June 1st, 2017 until July 1st, 2017 on the Southwestern University Residence Life webpage. If you are assessed damage fines, the Business Office will notify you of these fines in your June billing statement. An itemized damage statement will be sent to you by your Southwestern email.
Damage appeals will be accepted online only. Phone calls, text messages, office visits, or emails to the Residence Life Office or any other office will not be accepted as an official appeal.
Students will be notified of their appeal status by July 15th, 2017.
Students may choose to pay the outstanding housing damage balance prior to the outcome of the appeal. If the appeal is in the favor of the student, those charges will be reversed and credited to the student’s account.
Partial reversals of charges are possible (i.e., some charges could stand while others may be reversed or decreased).
If you are appealing a charge reasoning that one or more of your room/suitemates are responsible for the damage/charge in question, you must, in addition to your own written appeal, contact your room/suitemate with this concern. Your room/suitemate must write a separate letter attesting to his/her responsibility for the damage/charge in question.
Professional Residence Life staff members conduct final damage assessments.
All keys must be returned at the time of check-out. If you return your key after your scheduled check-out date, the locks will be changed and you will be charged.
All decisions made by the Housing Damage Appeals Committee are final.
2017 Summer Housing
How do I sign up for summer housing?
To sign up for summer housing please fill out the summer housing form. Specific building logistics have not been worked out at this time; therefore you will not be able to choose a specific apartment. If you do not have a roommate you will be placed with another student.
Summer housing will be available in the Lord Residential Center. All apartments are furnished with a full kitchen. A meal plan is not available in the summer. There is one option for summer housing in the Lord Center apartments: 2 people per apartment at $15 per day per student.
2017-18 Housing Information
Housing assignments are completed online during the month of February and March. An email will be sent to all students regarding the 2-step process for signing up for housing. Students must complete the Returning Student Housing Application in WebAdvisor whether they plan to live on or off campus or in a fraternity house. Sign-ups are according to the average number of hours of all those intending to sign up together and each group will choose a group leader. The group leader will be assigned a housing selection time based on the most recent high school graduation year and average amount of hours for roommate/suitemates. Only the group leader will have access to the room selection process.
Southwestern has a 2-year housing requirement therefore all first and second year students are required to live on campus.
