The Office of Communications is composed of four groups – Media Relations, Creative Services, Web Development and New Media.
Creative Services maintains the visual integrity of the Southwestern brand and communicates it to external audiences. This office can offer advice to student groups in the aspects of strategic communications, marketing, identity development and print production.
Media Relations prepares and disseminates information to media outlets about the University, its students, faculty and staff; academic programs; activities on and off campus; and more. This office publishes the weekly on-campus electronic newsletter, “In Focus” and manages the SU News Twitter account. Student groups and/or individuals sponsoring major events are encouraged to keep us informed well in advance of the event so that adequate publicity may be obtained.
New Media runs the University-wide Social Media Group (SMAG) and helps keep faculty and staff members informed about the latest trends in social media. This office maintains and develops content for the main Southwestern Facebook page and Twitter account, and oversees the University’s presence on additional social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, Foursquare and LinkedIn. Students, faculty and organizations are encouraged to partner with this office to help guide their social media strategy as well as promote events, successes and news.
Web Development (along with Information Technology Services) builds, manages and creates content for the University’s institutional website. This office allocates Web space to student organizations, trains groups and individuals, and advises students in building Web and social media strategies to raise their electronic profile, while working to maintain the University’s high standards in design and usability. Members of the Office of Communications also partner with the Office of University Events to help promote and publicize University events.
