Paideia

Civic engagement within the Paideia program takes many shapes and can serve a variety of purposes, particularly in the students’ first year in the program. Some Paideia cohorts have chosen to make a shared civic engagement, undertaking their initial collective focus, while others have opted to begin from shared readings about their organizing theme and let the civic engagement undertaking develop later in the first or even second year. Examples of projects driven by Paideia cohorts include:

  • Support for Green Initiatives, Campus & Greater Communities, Erika Berroth's 2008-11 cohort
  • Advocating for Animal Rights & against Domestic Violence, Julia Johnson's 2008-11 cohort
  • Computers for Honduran Children, Daniel Castro's 2007-10 cohort
  • Micro-lending (research for The Caring Place), Don Parks' 2006-09 cohort
  • Tutoring Upward Bound students, Elisabeth Piedmont-Marton's 2006-09 cohort
