Political science major Chelsea Marshall works as a Program Resources Coordinator at Tarrant Literacy Coalition in Ft. Worth via the AmeriCorps/VISTA program.  The Coalition, founded by the Tarrant County United Way, is dedicated to advancing the ability of adults to read, write, speak compute and solve problems in English.

A business and Spanish graduate, Gabe works as a Technical Support Engineer for Lifesize Communications in Austin. Previously Gabe interned as a Marketing Communications Intern at Freescale Semiconductor and a Marketing Intern at Simon Property Group’s Wolf Ranch Town Center.

Susannah, a Spanish graduate, works as a full-time volunteer paralegal through the Sisters of the Humility of Mary at the Florida Immigration Advocacy Center, a position she found through the Catholic Network of Volunteer Services’ website.  FIAC is one of the leading non-profit immigration law firms in the region, and Susannah works on the Children’s Project.

Taylor serves as the Regional Political Director (San Antonio, Rio Grande Valley and Coastal Bend) for U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX).  Taylor earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and business and gained valuable experience in politics through internships.

Ben, a religion major, will spend at least one year as a full-time volunteer caseworker with Samaritan Ministries in Washington, DC, working with homeless and near-homeless individuals.  Afterwards he may renew his position for an additional year or pursue seminary.

Holly, who earned her bachelor’s degree in art history, is pursuing a Master of Arts in Art History at Richmond, The American International University, in London, England.  She is the first SU graduate to pursue the intenstive, one-year master’s degree at this institution.

Caitlin, a Phi Beta Kappa Communication Studies graduate from Austin, turned her extensive internship experience into a full-time job position as the Multimedia Coordinator for National Instruments, an Austin tech company.  She completed four marketing internships at NI, plus an additional internship in London during her study abroad experience, and also earned the National Intern of the Year award from the Cooperative Education and Internship Association in 2008.

Rachael, a biology graduate, is pursuing her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy.

Preston is pursuing a Master of Divinity at the Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology in Dallas.  Preston graduated with a Communication Studies major from Southwestern.

Spanish and French major (and German minor) Erin will continue with her international pursuits through a 2009-2010 Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Germany.  Following her fellowship, Erin will enter a graduate program in international affairs.

Carolina earned her degree in Communication Studies and Spanish and will pursue a Master of Arts in Intercultural Communication at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM.

After earning her Bachelor’s in Sociology, Nicole will pursue a Master of Science in Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin. In addition, Nicole earned a scholarship from Alpha Xi Delta toward her graduate study and two awards from the Southern Sociologial Association and American Sociological Association for her senior capstone paper.

Michelle, a kinesiology major, will enter Valparaiso University School of Law in Valparaiso, IN, to pursue her law degree, with a particular interest in sports law.

As an Audit Associate for “Big 4” accounting firm KPMG LLP in Houston, Mandy Smith is implementing the career choice she pursued throughout her time at Southwestern.  An accounting and Spanish major, Smith prepared for her first job after college through classroom learning, internships and extracurricular activities, including as an intercollegiate volleyball player and Kemper Scholar.

Scott Rogers ’08, Flower Mound, sees working as in-house counsel to a professional sports team as a possible “dream job,” incorporating his undergraduate business major, his law studies at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law where he is a first-year student and his Division III baseball experience.  At any rate, corporate law of some kind in Dallas seems a likely destination.
