Susannah, a Spanish graduate, works as a full-time volunteer paralegal through the Sisters of the Humility of Mary at the Florida Immigration Advocacy Center, a position she found through the Catholic Network of Volunteer Services’ website.  FIAC is one of the leading non-profit immigration law firms in the region, and Susannah works on the Children’s Project.

In her position, Susannah visits clients (most of them teenagers) in detention centers around Miami and helps them through their immigration cases.  Most of her clients are from Central America, so her work is conducted primarily in Spanish.  In exchange for her services, Humility of Mary covers her living expenses.

“I’ve learned a great deal about immigration law,” Susannah says.  “The lawyers here are excellent, understanding and compassionate and let me learn as I go.  The amount of responsibility they give me is an amazing learning opportunity.  And the HM sisters are extremely supportive.”
