Daniel Orozco, Director of Career Services
Daniel came to Southwestern as Director of Career Services in August 2013. In addition to leading the office, Daniel helps students with career advising and builds connections with employers. He earned an MS in Educational Administration and a BS in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. After a very brief stint as a 5th grade teacher, Daniel has spent the rest of his career helping students with career development, including 22 years at the Career Center at Texas A&M and four years as Associate Director of the Career Center at Abilene Christian University. Daniel and his wife, Cathie, have two grown daughters and three grandchildren who live in Lima, Peru. Daniel also enjoys his two Australian shepherds and playing golf. Alexandra Anderson, Associate Director
Alexandra joined Career Services in July 2000 as the Assistant Director and was promoted to Associate Director in July 2007. She assists students with major, career and graduate school advising, maintains the website, coordinates many career-related presentations and serves as an academic advisor and fellowship advisor. Alex also chairs the Central Texas Liberal Arts Career Consortium professional development group and serves on the 2013 conference planning committee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers. Alex earned an MEd in Higher Education Administration and an MA in Spanish Linguistics from The University of Texas at Austin. She also earned her BA in Spanish and Linguistics from UT. Alex worked in Residence Life at UT, The University of Arizona and The University of California, Davis, for 10 years as a Resident Assistant, Graduate Resident Director and Resident Director. She also completed internships in Career Services offices at U of A and UCD. A former Army brat, Alex is happy to call Central Texas her adopted home, and in her spare time she loves to read, work out and tap dance. Maria Kruger ’91, Internship Coordinator
Maria returned to Southwestern to join the Career Services Staff as Internship Coordinator in November 1999. Maria assists students, faculty, and employers with all aspects of the internship process, including opportunities in New York City and Washington, DC. Maria also serves as an academic advisor and is the campus representative for the New York Arts Program. Maria earned an EdM in Educational Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and obtained her BA in History from Southwestern University in 1991. For eight years, Maria worked in the field of Academic Services for Intercollegiate Athletics with the University of Illinois and the University of Houston. Maria’s partner, David Seiler, is Associate Director of Academic Success at SU. They live in Austin with their daughter. Dana Luna, Office/Recruiting Specialist
Dana joined Career Services in August 2009. She works with employers to schedule on-campus interviews, manages PirateLink and is happy to help students and alumni schedule appointments, arrange meetings, check out books and answer questions about services and resources. A native of Austin, Dana earned her BS in Education from The University of Texas at Austin and worked for 14 years as a bilingual elementary school teacher in Austin and Georgetown. More recently Dana spent nine years serving as the office manager for Casablanca CenTex Realty. She is fluent in English and Spanish and also skilled in American Sign Language. Dana lives in Hutto with her husband and daughter. Her eldest son graduated from SU and her younger son is a senior. Contact Dana at email@example.com.
Each year Career Services hires students in part-time positions for the academic year and summer. Student staff maintain the Resource Center and PirateLink job postings, correspond with alumni to complete the Post-Graduation Survey, track statistical data, maintain the Success Showcase in the McCombs Campus Center and more. Career Associates for 2013-2014 are Victoria Hughes ’15, Annie Emswiler ’15, Brooke Chatterton ’15 and Kyrie Cassin ’14.
Ichabod Black and Antoinette Gold
Ichabod and Antoinette serve as Career Services’ mascots, raising awareness of the office around campus and representing it on Facebook. They also model appropriate business attire!
