President Shilling Announces Retirement, June 2000
March 26, 1999
President Roy B. Shilling, Jr. announced to the Board of Trustees during
the Board's spring meeting on Friday, March 26, that he will be stepping
down from the Southwestern University presidency, effective June 2000.
During the 1999-2000 academic year, Dr. William B. Jones, Interim Provost
and Dean of the Faculty, will serve as Executive Vice President, working as
the University's chief operating officer. Dr. Shilling will focus his
work next fall almost solely on off-campus efforts, devoting his time
primarily to fund raising and profile raising.
He has been granted a presidential sabbatical for the Spring 2000 semester.
Board Chair Red McCombs appointed trustee Jim Walzel as chair of the
presidential search committee.
