"A World Away: Cultural Exchange Symposium" marks Southwestern University's first Intercultural Experience Symposium. The symposium will take place Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, in the Red and Charlene McCombs Campus Center.

The Intercultural Symposium will feature 19 students who have studied abroad sharing their cultural experiences on both their visited country and their new perspectives on the United States. Students will present their reflections via oral and poster presentations. The presentations will provide specific cultural lessons learned and/or realizations arrived at as a result of the students' study abroad.

"We really wanted to add one more dimension by which we could extend the intercultural experience and bring it home to the SU community. We also wanted to provide an additional opportunity for those students contemplating their own intercultural experience to find out what others had done and to ask questions," says Stephanie Fabritius, associate provost and one of the symposium coordinators.

The symposium will be held in the McCombs Campus Center, with poster presentations in the Bishop's Lounge and oral presentations in the ballrooms. A multicultural dinner will be available in the Mabee Commons that evening. The Indian Student Association, Asia Club and Latinos Unidos will provide the recipes of the dishes being served. All events are free of charge, with the exception of the dinner, and are open to the public.
