The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has approved an appropriation of $100,000 to Southwestern University to support a collaborative leadership and student exchange project between Dillard University, Huston-Tillotson University, Morehouse College, Rhodes College and Southwestern University.

This program addresses human diversity and the interrelation of differing groups as an organizing principle for enriching the education of all students.

A $25,000 planning grant from the Mellon Foundation played a pivotal role in the development of this project. Administrators, faculty and students from the participating colleges and universities held conferences at Morehouse College in Atlanta and at Southwestern University to work out the specifics of the program.

Conference participants made it their goal "to create a culture of engaged diversity on each campus through joint programs, shared resources and the meaningful interactions of our students and faculty." Toward this end, the leadership and exchange program gives students the opportunity to participate in three annual conferences where they will explore issues and questions regarding diversity. Additionally, the project includes semester or yearlong tuition neutral exchanges for students from the participating schools.
