Raleigh Honored as SCAC Coach of the Year; Bowser Takes SCAC Player of the Year

February 26, 2005

In a season that produced SU's best-ever regular season conferece record, along with a No. 1 seed at the SCAC tournament, head coach Bill Raleigh captured well-deserved Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Coach of the Year honors, while junior Aaron Bowser was named as the SCAC Player of the Year. These awards are voted upon by the league's head coaches.

Raleigh, in his sixth season at Southwestern, led the Pirates to a 19-6 overall regular season mark, an 11-3 conference record, and the No. 1 seed in the SCAC tournament. This is the second time in three years that Raleigh has been honored as the league's Coach-of-the-Year (2002-03). Southwestern has produced a 54-25 overall mark the last three seasons - the program's best three-year run since joinging the SCAC - including a third-place regular season finish in 2002-03 and a fourth-place finish last season.

Bowser not only received his first SCAC Player of the Year honor, he was also the first for Southwestern basketball player - male or female - to be honored as SCAC Player of the Year. He finished the regular season ranked fifth in the league in scoring (15.6 ppg). In addition, he was 15th in the conference in field goal percentage (49.5%), fifth in three-point field goals made per game (2.16) and third in steals (1.60 spg). Bowser was also named the the All-SCAC first team, marking the third time he has received this honor.

In addition to Coach and Player of the Year honors, junior Robert Cates joined Bowser as an All-SCAC first team selection. Junior Jamonn Little rounded out the All-SCAC awards for Southwestern as an All-SCAC honorable mention.
