BAWB 2nd Annual Global On-Line Conference February 24-25, 2005

January 21, 2005

Jake Schrum, president of Southwestern University, and Bill Powers, dean of the University of Texas School of Law, will be Featured Speakers at Business as an Agent of World Benefit's (BAWB) Second Annual Global On-line Conference on Feb. 24-25, 2005.

Both men will be featured in a pre-recorded speech titled "Developing Bright, Moral and Courageous People." The two leaders will discuss the need for and role of liberal arts education in shaping business towards long-term, sustainable, globally responsible success. On Friday, February 25, President Schrum and Dean Powers will be available at the conference web site for live, text-based discussion of their presentation. Participants are encouraged to view the pre-recorded presentation in advance of the live-chat.

The BAWB's on-line conference uses internet technology to bring teachers, administrators, business leaders and social change agents together from around the world in scheduled and unscheduled sessions. Pre-recorded and continuously available audio and visual presentations allow conference participants to hear talks at their leisure.

During scheduled "live chat" sessions, participants may discuss the talks with presenters, just as one might in a Q&A or round-table discussion at a traditional conference. Additionally, registered conference participants may post discussion starters prior to and any time during the two days. All participants are encouraged to participate in these asynchronous conversations.

Asynchronous posting around the clock occurs because of the wide variety of time zones in which participants live and work. During the 2004 conference, active conversation occurred for several hours at a time on both sides of a scheduled live-chat.

The conference maintains a professional level of dialogue and interactions throughout its discussion forums. Each participant is required to register (though registration fees are covered by a grant), appears on screen by his or her registration name and is encouraged to post a photograph in order to enhance personal connections across thousands of miles.
