Southwestern University Honors Martin Luther King, Jr.

Southwestern University will host a weeklong series of events to honor the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr. The title of this year's MLK celebration week is "We Are All Cousins/Todos Somos Primos," Celebrating African and Latino Heritage in the Americas. Events run from Jan. 17-20 and are free and open to the public.
Activities for the week include a community march on Georgetown Square, student and faculty presentations, a film festival featuring "Quilombo," by Brazilian director Carlos Diequez, poetry and spoken word performances, a jazz reception and several guest speakers.
Southwestern's Willson Lecture Series also occurs in conjunction with the MLK celebration. The University is pleased to welcome Harold J. Recinos, professor of church and society at Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology, as this year's Willson Lecturer. Recinos will give a lecture entitled "God in a Dim Mirror: The Politics of Race in a Changing Society" at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in the McCombs Ballroom on the Southwestern campus.
