Southwestern University Alumni Give Back with Day of Service

Day of Service began in Dec. 1994 when the president of Southwestern's alumni association heard that Austin's Capital Area Food Bank was in dire need of assistance sorting food before Christmas. After sending out a request to local alumni, 15 responded and gave a day of their time to help out. After completing their work, they thought it would be a great idea if alumni groups in other cities could gather in a similar way to make a difference and meet the needs of their own communities.

This annual event is coordinated by Southwestern's Office of Alumni and Parent Relations, with projects taking place in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Seattle, Atlanta and New York City.

AUSTIN-CENTRAL TEXAS

Southwestern University alumni in the Austin area will spend this Saturday, Apr. 27, sorting donated food at the Capital Area Food Bank from 12:45-4 p.m., as part of Southwestern University's nationwide Day of Service.

DALLAS

Southwestern University alumni in the Dallas area will spend this Saturday, Apr. 27, sorting, pricing and putting out clothing donations for Vincent's Closet, a thrift store associated with St. Vincent Center at Holy Trinity Church from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., as part of Southwestern University's nationwide Day of Service.

FORT WORTH

Southwestern University alumni in the Fort Worth area will spend this Saturday, Apr. 27, painting classrooms at the YWCA of Fort Worth and Tarrant County's Polytechnic Child Development Center as part of Southwestern University's nationwide Day of Service

HOUSTON

Southwestern University alumni in the Houston area will spend this Saturday, Apr. 27, painting dormitory rooms for homeless families at the Star of Hope Mission Women and Family Transitional Living Center from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., as part of Southwestern University's nationwide Day of Service.

SAN ANTONIO

Southwestern University alumni in San Antonio will spend this Saturday, Apr. 27, painting over graffiti in the downtown area from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., as part of Southwestern University's nationwide Day of Service. The group will meet at the Decisions for Life office at 1423 Guadalupe Street. They will work alongside local youth that participate in Decisions for Life.
