- December 31, 2005 Southwestern University had an estimated direct economic impact of more than $90.5 million on the Georgetown-Williamson County area in 2004-05, according to figures released this month by the university’s Office of Fiscal Affairs.
- December 31, 2005 Thomas H. Kean, the former New Jersey governor who was selected by President George W. Bush to chair the 9/11 Commission, will give the 2006 Shilling Lecture at Southwestern University. The lecture will be held March 31 at 2 p.m. in the Robertson Center.

- June 30, 2005 Marvin Henderson ‘41 won the United States Tennis Association doubles championship with his partner Jerry Joyce back in 1993 when he was not yet 75. This year he found sweet success on the courts again as he won the USTA 85s indoor national championship in singles play at the ripe young age of 84–his first singles championship.
