Arena-Style Registration: No Longer a Southwestern Tradition

Do you remember registering for classes? The long lines? The stress? The agony of hearing that classes were closed? Well, the registration process at Southwestern is undergoing a makeover.

Spring Registration 2005 marked the last time that Southwestern University students will ever register arena-style. Beginning in November, students will log-in and select the courses that they need for the upcoming academic semester online.

The tradition of colored registration cards, rushing across the gym and pleading with faculty members is history. The new online process will save students time and energy when registering for their courses. Alas, one thing not likely to change is the first-year experience of calculating several potential schedules in case of closed courses.

When November 15 rolls around, think about how nice it will be for current Southwestern students to sit in their dorm room or the nearest computer lab and register for the classes they need next term. Perhaps, seniors tell first-year students how lucky they are and recall the not so good old days of arena registration.

Send your own arena registration memories to alumni@southwestern.edu. The Office of Alumni Relations will post a collection of comments on www.sugrads.org. We look forward to hearing your stories.
