Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Information Services Operations Manager. This is a year round, full-time position that manages a department responsible for the direct delivery of public services including overseeing the InfoDesk (first tier technology help desk and circulation services), campus operators, over-sight of library and Information Technology facilities including computer labs, monitors performance metrics and service assessment, leads special projects and is a member of the Information Services leadership team.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: performs or manages those who perform all of the tasks of the InfoDesk, issues Pirate Cards, provides technology help desk services, and the borrowing of library materials, audio/visual and computing equipment; responds to user questions about equipment, materials services available to students, faculty and staff; works in close collaboration with the Manager of Research and Digital Scholarship to assure easy student access to research assistance; develops, interprets and communicates policies, procedures and hours of operation of the InfoDesk and for use of the building and the materials and services within it; coordinates stack maintenance; creates or supervises those who create reports and keep data on transactions at the InfoDesk; uses data to improve services; manages the staff providing 24/364 campus telephone operator and emergency dispatch services for the university; leads or manages those who lead projects, events and activities which could include building renovation, repair and upkeep of the facility, special events such as First Thursday, SPROG and Orientation and other projects that may emerge; and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; five years of demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic and supervisory experience of IT customer support or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates strong knowledge of and experience with relevant operation, library and technology services, higher education practices, and support for students, faculty and staff in a physical facility and with electronic system; familiarity with library and other catalog, inventory and tracking systems; proficient with productivity software and data gathering, ability to organize and execute projects, write reports, and keep statistical records; familiarity with using spreadsheets and working with budget and cost data; strong organizational skills; excellent computer skills utilizing software such as Microsoft Word and Excel; excellent interaction and communication skills, both written and verbal; have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community; ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation; possess a valid Texas driver’s license and have the ability to lift boxes of at least 25 lbs.
Preferred qualifications: Understanding of the mission of a small, private, liberal arts college; demonstrated experience as a manager of student workers; experience working in a job where a variety of duties must be performed and priorities may need adjusting quickly.
