President Burger’s Inauguration Set for March 25
Week of festivities will mark the inauguration of Southwestern’s 15th president
Southwestern University will formally inaugurate its 15th president, Dr. Edward Burger, on March 25, 2014.
The installation ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. in the Robertson Center, followed by a party on the Roy H. Cullen Academic Mall. At 7:30 p.m., the celebration will culminate with the 15th annual Roy and Margaret Shilling Lecture, featuring Scott Simon, novelist and host of National Public Radio’s “Weekend Edition Saturday” and “Need to Know” programs.
Additional events are being planned for the week of the inauguration, including a Southwest-ern-style gala that will support scholarships for first-generation students.
On Monday, March 24, Southwestern will host its first “Paideia Conversations” event in which faculty members from different disciplines talk about their work and then engage in a discussion with members of the audience. The March 24 event will feature Alison Kafer, associate professor of feminist studies, and Maria Todd, associate professor of biology. President Burger said he hopes this series will become a focal point of each semester at Southwestern.
