Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Program Coordinator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) grant recently awarded to the University’s Natural Sciences Division.  This is a grant-funded, full-time appointment (11 months) with benefits reporting to the Co-Directors for the grant. The Coordinator position will be filled on a temporary, rotating basis by a graduate “gap year” Southwestern science student.

The Program Coordinator position’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:  Assist in the development and implementation of HHMI-funded student and faculty development programs; provide administrative and organizational support for HHMI events and programs including seminars, poster sessions, and group meetings; assist the Co-Directors in managing budgets for HHMI programming by tracking expenditures and reconciling these against college budget reports and grant expenditure categories; work with the Co-Directors to write, edit, produce and disseminate documents and websites that inform the university community about HHMI programs and opportunities; oversee student workers who are providing additional support on grant-related activities; provide general administrative support to the HHMI Steering Committee and HHMI Assessment Committee; maintain a database of students and faculty supported by HHMI; and work with the HHMI Assessment Committee to collect and maintain assessment data related to grant activities.

Required Qualifications:  A graduate “gap year” Southwestern science student (bachelor of science);  strong verbal and written communication skills; skills to manage and execute events independently; strong project management skills; evidence of initiative in work settings and good interpersonal skills; well-developed organizational abilities and attention to detail; and ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize work.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, web design, Google apps, and database software (or willingness and ability to learn)
