The opening for the exhibitions “Interludes: Paintings by Michael Mogavero” and “Art from the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction” was well attended on January 28 in the Fine Arts Gallery.  Mogavero gave a gallery talk about his paintings of elaborately stylized and ornate gates that partially obscure sexually explicit scenes culled from pornographic sites on the internet.  The paintings “explore the societal parameters of what is desired and what is forbidden” in richly layered metaphors.

Star Varner, Professor of Art and curator for both exhibits also spoke about paintings, drawings, photographs and posters from the Kinsey exhibit.  The exhibit will be open through March 3rd.
