Theatre Professor Entertains
Rick Roemer, Professor of Theatre, will act, direct, and produce three local productions January through May.
At Zach Scott Theatre, he will be playing The Albert’s in Mad Beat Hip & Gone, which will run from April 3-April 28. This world premiere by Steven Dietz, is set in the late 40’s and early 50’s, during the time when Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady famously went “on the road.” But what about Danny Fergus and Rich Rayburn – the young guys in the car right behind Jack and Neal? What were these kids searching for in those “mad days” of “gone kids” trying so hard to be hip? With live jazz and exuberant theatricality, this valentine to American wanderlust chronicles our rich and elusive dreams.
In May, he will direct and produce Bittersuite: Songs of Experience at The Trinity Blackbox Theater.
In January and February he played the role of Lyman in Other Desert Cities at the Austin Playhouse.
