Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Psychologist in the Counseling Services Department.  This is a full-time, 11-month professional position with benefits, reporting to the Director of Counseling.  This position will provide counseling, consultation, crisis intervention, and preventive and developmental outreach services for students.

Responsibilities:  Conduct individual, group, and relationship therapy, related to issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma (including surviving sexual assault), bereavement, eating disorders, relationship violence, alcohol and/or drug use, personality disorders, suicide risk, family issues, and developmental and situational concerns; assist with the specialized concerns of persons of color, gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered persons, persons with disabilities, women, men, and persons of all religious backgrounds; coordinate care with other providers; plan, deliver, and evaluate developmental and preventive interventions; consult with students, faculty, staff, and parents regarding student welfare; share crisis response and intervention responsibilities (rotating On-Call); participate in on-going professional development; adhere to psychologist’s code of ethical conduct and abide by state laws governing the practice of psychology; perform administrative tasks such as participating in staff meetings, writing and editing Counseling Services promotional materials, assisting with on-going evaluation of Counseling Services and serving on University committees, etc.

Qualifications:  A Doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology, excellent counseling and psychotherapy skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.  Candidates must enjoy working with traditional age students in a residential, student-centered environment, and should have a demonstrated record of flexibility and willingness to serve and interact with all individuals, regardless of sex, race, color, religion, age, disability, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or any other impermissible factor.  Doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology, two or more years related experience and current licensure as a psychologist in Texas or immediately licensable by reciprocity from another state is preferred.
