SU Students are involved in the community

Support SU students reaching out to the local community.
Goal: $750
Amount Achieved: $56
Completion Date: December 31

Southwestern students are among some of the most generous in the country as evidenced by the almost 20,000 hours of service donated each year.

While many are willing and able to donate their time as they seek ways to apply their learning in community experiences, other students have financial obligations that prevent them from accepting unpaid internships. As a result, the Office of Civic Engagement can sometimes not fulfill the dozens of requests from nonprofit and community agencies requesting Southwestern interns each year.

Funding a Civic Engagement Intern (CEI) will help us meet the needs of students while supporting Southwestern’s core value of “encouraging activism in the pursuit of justice and the common good.”

”Real-world work experience with community organizations allows students to explore what they are interested in, and helps them learn about careers in the nonprofit sector. The Civic Engagement internship program provides financial support for students choosing this path.” -David Boutte, ‘1
