Biologists Engaging Minds & Transforming Lives Thru Research Experiences
Current happenings of the Biology Department. Students interested in research should contact individual faculty members.
The Biology department sponsors the 2012-2013 Biology student seminar series. Students present findings of the research they have conducted with Biology faculty at SU, in Summer Research Programs at other institutions and at International Institutions. This year 18 students are sharing their work and experiences.
Overall, this academic year there are 27 undergraduates participating in research with all 7 faculty members of the biology department. Research projects include: Post-translational regulation of prokaryotic translesion DNA synthesis, developing active learning classroom modules in evolutionary biology, role of the tight junction proteins claudin-3 and-4 in breast cancer, possible hormonal control of claudins 3 and -4 expression, role of claudins 3 and -4 in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition, studying the exotic, invasive apple snail, Pomacea insularum and ecology of the Georgetown salamander.
