Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Carpenter with a minimum of five years experience in commercial construction. This position performs rough to finish wood working in all areas of carpentry from maintenance to designing original projects for the Southwestern University campus. Job #507.
Primary duties include: design and maintain all facets of woodworking; perform carpentry repairs and maintenance on University buildings, furniture, suspended ceilings, windows, and doors; design, build, repair and install counters, cabinets, benches, shelves, partitions, floors, doors, building framework and trim; construct walls, sheet-rock and install trim; respond to work orders involving installing locks, re-keying locks, hanging doors, bulletin boards, mirrors, art work, eraser boards, etc.
Requirements include: five years of experience in commercial construction, thorough knowledge of wood working, operation and safety of power and hand tools, ability to read and interpret blue prints, ability to design and build cabinets, shelves, etc. and working knowledge and/or willingness to learn locksmith skills. Job involves climbing ladders and scaffolding and occasional heavy lifting of objects weighing 50 lbs. A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
