Costume Shop Manager

The Theatre department in the Sarofim School of Fine Arts at Southwestern University invites applications for a Costume Shop Manager.  This is a 9-month, full-time professional staff position with benefits.  This appointment is for one academic year with the possibility of renewal.

This position will be responsible for executing the costume and makeup designs for Theatre Department stage productions and one Opera Theatre production per year. The Costume Shop Manager will collaborate with faculty in supervising the work of students enrolled in Theatre production Laboratory courses, and serve as instructor of record for that course.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Supervise paid and enrolled students in the costume shop; costume patterning, draping and construction; prepare and team-teach Stagecraft; in collaboration with design faculty, devise and maintain costume shop schedules and production budgets; order materials and supplies; fabric dying, millinery construction, makeup application; maintain costume shop and equipment; maintain costume stock and costume rentals/loans; participate in departmental and production meetings and as schedules and work loads allow, assist other theatre technical staff with other aspects of production.

Qualifications include, but are not limited to:  BA/BFA in costume construction & technology or related field; excellent pattern drafting and costume construction skills; experience in costume crafts (wigs, textile painting and dying, millinery); ability to organize and manage budgets and schedules with spreadsheet and scheduling software; strong skills in organizing and supervising students; knowledge of vendors, purchasing/rental and inventory procedures; strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.  A MFA in Costume technology, experience in a professional costume shop and college/university level teaching experience is preferred.
