Over 1700 structures were destroyed in the terrible wildfires of September and October of 2011.
The Bastrop Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) is looking for groups to come and volunteer at Bastrop for an Alternative Spring Break or other day(s) of volunteering. More recovery and clean-up are needed in these wildfire stricken areas.
Up until December, an Americorps team had been running the VRC. After December, community members will be taking over the VRC, and volunteers will be scheduled mainly on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The VRC is also open to other group volunteering dates if arranged in advance.
They emphasize that this is a great opportunity to help a community in need, and the town is still in great need of full recovery.
