Three new members have joined the Southwestern University Board of Trustees.

Trustees elected to four-year terms are Rev. Mary Balagia of Dallas and Thomas Shockley of Georgetown.

Rev. Balagia is associate pastor of Lover’s Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas. She earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Houston and a master of divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. Her son Michael is a 2010 Southwestern graduate.

Shockley is the retired chief operating officer for American Electric Power and a past member of Southwestern’s Board of Visitors. He earned an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University – Kingsville and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He also received an advanced management development degree from the Harvard Business School. Shockley’s two children both attended Southwestern.

Sarah Woolley is serving a two-year term as a recent graduate elected by the student body. Woolley graduated in 2011 with a degree in political science and was president of Student Congress during her senior year. She is currently interning with the Colorado River Foundation and working part-time with an ex-offender support program in Austin. She hopes to attend graduate school at The University of California-Berkeley.
